This week’s Social Mum of the week is Lyndsey who has been a member of our Social Mums Tunbridge Wells Facebook Group for the past 5 months. She explains how social media can surface the mum guilt as well as how joining our Facebook group has helped beat the loneliness of being a solopreneur.
Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.
I’m Lyndsey, I live in Paddock Wood with my amazing husband Craig, our beautiful 15 month old daughter Isla, and our 2 rescue cats Biscuit and Guinness. We’re currently expecting our second child at the beginning of next year so we’ll have 2 children under 2. Time to embrace the madness!
What is your business?
I’m a KGHypnobirthing Teacher. I teach Hypnobirthing antenatal classes through my company TrueWay Hypnobirthing. I hold monthly group classes from Vitae in Paddock Wood and at weekends I teach private classes for clients from the comfort of their own homes. I also hold taster sessions where parents-to-be, and people just generally interested in Hypnobirthing, can find out more about how our antenatal classes can help to release the fear that surrounds birth.
What inspired you to start your business?
We used Hypnobirthing when we had our daughter and I can honestly say we had such a positive birth experience. It was the complete opposite to the horror stories my friends and relatives had so “helpfully” told me. As such, I was probably a bit naïve when I first started TrueWay. I hadn’t really thought about starting a business. My goal was simply to teach Hypnobirthing so others could have positive births too. Now I’m learning to combine my teaching passion with business goals so I can eventually work it around our family life.
What social media platforms do you use and why?
I mainly use Facebook. I find it’s great for organising events and easy to manage. Honestly, I probably use it so much because I actually know how to use it. I have a Twitter page and I’m trying to use it more but I’m a bit scared of it. I’m not sure how to optimise it properly and as such I don’t tend to get much interaction with clients or potential clients.
What do you find most challenging about marketing your business on social media?
It’s got to be finding the time. What I really want to do is spend time teaching, expanding my Hypnobirthing knowledge and, most importantly, being with my daughter. I often get a huge dose of Mum guilt when I’m distracted by writing a post, only to look up and see Isla waiting for me to play with her.
What is the best social media tip you have picked up for your business?
That you can schedule posts on Facebook. When I do have time to work on my Facebook page it means I can set up posts for the next few days. I also try to make videos so clients and potential clients can see the face behind my company.
What have you found most useful about being part of a Social Mums Facebook Group?
I love being part of the Social Mums group. Running your own business can be very lonely. Being part of the daily social share helps take some of that loneliness away. You realise that you’re not the only one trying to make your business dreams a reality.
