Social Mum of the Week – Su Ram

This week’s Social Mum of the week is the lovely Su who is a member of our Social Mums Tunbridge Wells Facebook Group. She takes us through the incredible journey to starting her business.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

My name is Supraja but to make it easy people call me Su. I come from a very small village (where English is hardly spoken) in South India. I belong to a typical orthodox Indian priest family. I had my Ayurvedic, Healing, Meditation and Beauty business from a very young age as I was blessed by my family Gurus. I was a mum of two but I lost my son, so I have only one Daughter. I was a single mum for 14 years and then found my husband online and got married within two months and came to this country two years ago. I am also a carer 24/7 for my mother-in-law who is 86 years old, bed bound and on dialysis.

What is your business?

It is known as Azhagi Beauty. I continued the same business which I used to run in India, Ayurveda, Healing, and Beauty. I also run free meditation and breath work classes which are children friendly.

What inspired you to start your business?

As a child, I used to watch how people are benefited by Ayurveda and Healing. People came with low energy and went home with positive and happy energy. That made me really curious to know can I too make such a positive difference in others. That’s when I started my practices under the gurus. Trust me, the journey was not easy but my dedication and determination made it possible.

When I got Divorced that’s when I could really taste the fruits of my practices, as I had to stand against the whole society. When I became a single Mother and stood up for myself that’s when I realized how Ayurveda, healing meditations and beauty can play a major role in creating a positive environment for both mother and child. Since then I started focusing more on females. A Female is the strongest pillar of any house.

What social media platforms do you use and why?

I use Instagram, Facebook, and Google most. I feel they are easy for me and for my business.

What do you find most challenging about marketing your business on social media?

The most challenging thing about marketing is my lack of knowledge. The social media platforms keep updating and I need regular training to keep up with the updates.

What is the best social media tip you have picked up for your business?

Go with the flow. This can only happen though if we stay updated by knowing what’s new.

What have you found most useful about being part of a Social Mums Facebook Group?

By being part of the Social Mums Facebook group I gain lots of knowledge. Gemma gives us the latest updates and tips which I find very helpful. People are very friendly too and I have got to know a lot of local people which is great as I am new to this country.
