This week we’re talking to photographer Jessica who is a member of our Social Mums Leicester Facebook Group. She tells us why being authentic on social media is so important and why having a tribe of other Social Mums to support you is priceless.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY

Hi guys, I’m Jess! I’m a 30 year old mum, step mum, wife, photographer, lover of travel and a huge Disney addict!

WHAT IS YOUR BUSINESS?

I am a photographer specialising in bump to 1 year. This covers maternity, newborn, baby, cake smash and more. I am based in Broughton Astley, Leicester and work from my home studio which I love!

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS?

When my youngest was born I began to realise more and more that all the images I had taken of him were on my phone. These weren’t great quality and were generally stored on my computer rather than hanging on my walls. So many treasured moments had either been missed, were blurry or had been accidentally deleted. My heart broke and I vowed that I would take quality images and print what I wanted to preserve.

WHAT SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS DO YOU USE AND WHY?

I currently use Facebook and Instagram. I love them both for different reasons. Facebook feels more personal yet Instagram is the perfect platform for showcasing photos.

WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING ABOUT MARKETING YOUR BUSINESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA?

It can be a minefield. Some days so many posts are seen yet other days it appears no one has come across them. Often it’s nothing a cute baby picture can’t solve though!

WHAT IS THE BEST SOCIAL MEDIA TIP YOU HAVE PICKED UP FOR YOUR BUSINESS?

My best tip is always be authentic. Only you can do you! People will buy from people they know, like and trust.
