Social Mum of the Week – Kelly Warner

This week we’re talking to busy mum of twins Kelly who runs two businesses around a self employed admin role! Kelly is a member of our Social Mums North Hampshire Facebook Group,Β she tells us what inspired her to start her business as well as what she has found to increase her social media engagement.

TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY

My name is Kelly-Lauren and I live in Basingstoke with my boy/girl twins who are starting school this September πŸ˜₯ and my fiancΓ©.Β  I haven’t lived here very long but glad we made the move!

WHAT IS YOUR BUSINESS?

I own a musical movement and sensory group called Jiggy Wrigglers in Basingstoke, Fleet and Hook.Β  I also sell Tropic Skin Care products as their products are vegan, animal cruelty free and the company is carbon neutral.Β  I am trying to be more eco friendly and this is definitely a step in the right direction!

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START YOUR BUSINESS?

I used to work as a part time HR Manager and this type of role rarely works part time as employee relation cases and employee queries cannot wait until you are next back to work so I was working full time (whilst earning a part time salary) whilst trying to look after my twins on my day off.Β  I can also work term time only with my musical movement group which is great for when my little ones start school.

I also have a self employed admin role but as this is from home so I can work this around my classes and again, around school holidays.

The satisfaction you get from building a business up yourself is also a brilliant incentive.

WHAT SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS DO YOU USE AND WHY?

I currently use Instagram and Facebook.Β  These are used to update people on my classes and new products coming out.Β  They both work quite well.Β  I try to be consistent with my posts on both medias as I know that’s important but sometimes I do forget to post and I also don’t want to overload people in case they stop reading my posts.

I do have a twitter and LinkedIn account but am not too familiar of the best way to use these so tend not to update them very much.

WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING ABOUT MARKETING YOUR BUSINESS ON SOCIAL MEDIA?

Knowing how to get engagement on post and knowing when is too much.Β  The last thing you want is people to stop looking at your notifications as you post too much!

What is the best social media tip you have picked up for your business?

Trying to be consistent and comment on others pages.Β  I would do this anyway to support local mums in business but I think it also helps your engagement if you do this too.

WHAT HAVE YOU FOUND MOST USEFUL ABOUT BEING PART OF A SOCIAL MUMS FACEBOOK GROUP?

I think just knowing there are other mums in business in a similar situation is quite comforting and also increasing my engagement through the #SocialShares posts has been successful.
