How it all began
Social Mums was founded back in 2017 by Gemma Lloyd.
Gemma had already been working as a Social Media Manager for a couple of years after graduating from the Digital Mums Social Media Manager programme in 2015.
She was finding that many of the small businesses she wanted to support couldn’t afford to pay for her services to manage their social media long term, so she set up some social media workshops locally in West Kent.

The workshops were a huge success and the feedback from everyone taking part was amazing. She knew that small business owners all over the UK would benefit from this level of training and support, so she decided to take all of the Social Mums’ training online.
She made it her mission to give small business owners the social media skills, knowledge and confidence they need to build a successful business. And that is still the mission we work towards today.
Social Mums Today
Gemma now works with other social media experts and professionals in their field to offer a variety of training and support through Social Mums.
As a business, Social Mums has trained over 3,000 small business owners to use social media more effectively and we’re proud that over 99% of people said they would recommend our training to a friend.
We now offer in-depth training programmes that are perfect for small business owners including the Social Media Strategy Programme and the Instagram Accelerator Programme.
As well as specialist training such as the Instagram Reels Workshop & Planning Day.
In 2019 we launched the Social Mums Members Community so we could offer longer term support to small business owners and our membership continues to grow and flourish today.
We were finding that lots of self-taught social media managers were joining our various training sessions, so in 2020 we launched the Social Media Manager Programme to offer anyone looking to work as a Social Media Manager all of the training and support they would need.

Gemma is passionate about helping small business owners who juggle running a successful business, with family life, make the best of their social media.
She has over 15 years experience in marketing, working as an account manager in the UK’s third largest regional creative agency with clients such as Sky Bet and The Law Society.
In 2015 Gemma retrained by doing the Digital Mums social media management course in a bid to find a more flexible career to fit around her two young children. She hasn’t looked back and has since worked with a large number of parent focused businesses, some managing their social media long term and others on shorter term campaigns to launch new products or services.
She has also been running many of the Social Mums workshops and training sessions since 2017 as well as 1:1 training sessions, equipping small business owners with the skills needed to take their social media to the next level.

Being a mum of two young children Gemma is in the perfect position to offer guidance and support on all aspects of social media while understanding the real juggle small business owners face working around their families.
