What are Social Media Content Pillars?

You’ve probably heard Content Pillars being talked about when it comes to social media content, but what on earth are they? In this blog post we’ll explain all.

Social media content pillars are basically a group of topics or themes that are relevant for your target audience, which your business will share content around.

We recommend having between 3 and 6 content pillars for your small business, as this will give you a variety of different content.

By setting out your Content Pillars it will make it so much easier to come up with great content that will appeal to your ideal customers.

No more staring at the screen trying to think of what to post about today!

Content Pillars are different to content types and ways of sharing.  For example content types can include educational, promotional and inspirational content.

And on Instagram there are lots of ways to share such as Reels, Stories, Carousels etc.

Content Pillars are much more specific to your business

They are the things you talk about, the things that your target audience cares about and the things that reflect your unique business values and mission.

For example a yoga instructor may have these Content Pillars;

  • The practice of yoga
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Healthy eating
  • Meditation

Then within each Content Pillar you can share in different ways as well as a variety of content types.

Why not spend some time coming up with your content pillars and then brainstorming ideas for each of them and you’ll never run out of social media content ideas again!
