Social Mum of the Week – Stephanie Sadler

This week we’re talking to mum of one Stephanie, who is originally from New York. She’s a member of our Social Mums London Facebook group. She talks to us about how growing up in a family of entrepreneurs inspired her to start her business as well as an important social media tip for any small business.

Tell us a little bit about yourself and your family.

Hi, I’m Steph. I live in southwest London with my husband, our 2-year-old daughter Emilia and a lazy cat called Oakley. I’m originally from New York, but have lived in the UK for more than 12 years. Beyond work and family, I love to travel, read, explore, blog, bake, eat and drink lots of tea.

What is your business?

I’m a freelance social media strategist and content creator. While I work with some larger companies, I especially love to work with and support small businesses. I’ve set up some  more affordable social media services specifically with small business owners in mind to make myself more accessible to them. I also have an Etsy shop where I sell photography prints.

What inspired you to start your business?

I come from a family of entrepreneurs who value hard work and support small businesses. Helping creative and innovative people, especially other women and other parents, reach goals and succeed is the reason I became a freelancer. I want to help those who deserve to stand out from the crowd share their stories and make themselves more easily found by the audiences they want to connect with the most. And I know small business owners don’t always have the time, enthusiasm about social media or knowledge of best practices to do this themselves.

What social media platforms do you use and why?

You’ll find me most often on Instagram and in Facebook groups. I love the visual nature of Instagram and how engaged people are there with content they love. And while I don’t often post to my personal Facebook feed these days, I spend a lot of time interacting in groups, connecting with inspiring people and learning something new every day.

What do you find most challenging about marketing your business on social media?

I spend so much time on social media for clients that when it comes to marketing my own business on social media, I’m often less than enthusiastic or willing to invest the time it takes to grow my accounts. Always the way, right?

What is the best social media tip you have picked up for your business?

Create a look and feel for your pages and content and be consistent with it, but also be sure that that look and feel reflect your true vision for your business. It’s easy to hop on trends and copy other people who are successful, but challenging yourself to carve your own path will bring the best results in the end.

What have you found most useful about being part of a Social Mums Facebook Group?

I’m pretty new to the group, but so far the resources and community vibes are fantastic. It’s always rewarding and inspiring to connect with like-minded people.

Where can we find you on social media?
